Location: St James Cavalier, Valletta, Malta
Event: M.O Debut Collection (Fashion Show)
Date: Thursday 27 March 20:00
I usually associate St James Cavalier with drama, art, and film and on various occasions throughout the year I watch plays in the theatre. So it was a delightful surprise to be invited to and to discover that Martina Zammit Maempel’s debut fashion show was to take place in the same spot where tragedies and comedies alike come to life and unfold. An encouraging 150-strong audience turned up for the event and a reception followed, where the attendees were offered the opportunity to mingle with the models and feast their eyes on the clothes. So without further ado, here is my take on the pieces in question.
M.O collection offers ladylike additions infused with classic elegance and adorned with fine detailing, such as intricate beading and the finest lace. Wearability and timelessness are key qualities of the pieces. Partnering up with Martina is Olga Shmidberskaya, whose skillful hands enabled every item of clothing, be it a floor-length gown or a cocktail dress, to sashay and drift softly onto the runway of the circular theatre stage. The textures and materials are of exquisite quality and there is serious thought behind the execution of the collection. It is a collection precisely because every piece is part of a seamless ensemble, characterized by flow and logic in the choice of colours and designs.
