A couple of years ago, international designers used to showcase their work during the International Designers’ show. However, as of last year, international designers were offered the opportunity of having a solo show. For this year’s edition of Malta Fashion Week, it was a Romanian designer (based in Greece) to be the first international name.
Herminas Reea’s collection is characterised by princess-like gowns that are also sophisticated. Although the designer uses lace, it does not look tacky or dated because the cuts are adventurous and modern. These dresses and gowns would definitely make a grand entrance, and the white gown for the final look could easily double as a wedding gown. What is striking is the combination of colours, details, and materials – all together, they bring flair, drama, and a refined sensuality simultaneously. The collection is not garish or in-your-face, but you can tell a massive amount of work went in the detailing of every piece that is a stand-out on its own. I tend to look for cohesion in a collection; in this case I would say that the studied use of materials and the cuts in the gowns probably make the collection come together. Overall, it was a welcome addition to this year’s fashion week!
